Me and the O/H both have a week off at the same time in mid March. We want a few days away somewhere - about 4 nights - but struggling to agree, so I thought I'd get a few ideas from here...

Thing is, we (OK, I) don't really want to spend a fortune, she wants to go abroad somewhere in October, we are getting married next February, want to buy a house etc. etc.

As an idea of what we want to do, long walks in the countryside, nice old towns, and reasonable pubs and restaurants.

Originally we looked at the Lake district, but a lot of the places seemed a bit pricey. Then we looked at the Channel Islands - flights and car hire seemd quite cheap. I've been to Guernsey years ago and enjoyed it, but it was only for a couple of days. Then Northern France, a return ferry was dirt cheap, and it's a nice part of the world... then I gave up on all that and looked at the Peak District, but nothing really caught my eye.

Anyway, if anyone wants to throw out some random ideas to help me make a decision, it would be appreciated!

New Forest area about 3 to 4 hours drive. Lovely area for cycling/walks etc.

Check out my advert for static caravan - e-mail or phone for more details.

My wife and I looked to going away for a couple of days at Easter and considered all the usuals such as Prague, Paris, Jersey and a few further away places. However getting suitable flight times/prices was getting silly. Over the week-end we booked a lodge in Centre Parcs and we're really looking forward to it. The reviews are v good and it doesn't seem as weather dependent as other UK venues, yet we can still get out and go cycling in all the woodland or go and see some of the nice towns around it. The only downside (£££) for us is we had to book during school holidays as my wifes a teacher, but the non peak time rates seem quite reasonable.

As is so often the case, looks like we are going with the original idea. Found a nice cheap cottage in Keswick for a few days, and saving more for somewhere abroad in October.

Get the car on the channel tunnel, and go to Bruges. It's about an hours drive up the coast the other end.

Bruges, and Ypres a re both very nice.

Although an out of season break in the west country can also be very nice, and less time lost travelling.

We had a nice weekend once staying at the (Old?) Bell Inn in Malmesbury. Lots of interesting countryside all around. http://www.oldbellhotel.co.uk/

You can go for walks from the front door, just cross the road and get past the houses opposite and you're away. smile
