98r 996, 6owners, 8reg numbers, ????
Discussion
on my ongoing hunt for a 996 i have found what seems to be a nice one, guards red with black sports leather, full gt3 aero kit, 40k miles what im concerned about is its a 98r but has had 5 previous owners and has had 8 registration transfers, should this ring alarm bells and should i stay away,
For a start it's Guards red - I don't think I've ever seen a Guards 996 - that was death for s/h values of 993s - what's the concensus on a 996 in that '80s hue?
8 owners - could be botched plate changes - DVLA can swap plates without bumping up the owners if they do it right. My 3.2 Cab had 8 owners in the book - I paid the DVLA a fiver and they copied all previous V5s - showed that the car had only had 4 keepers, the plate had just been changed 4 times!

ash hpi do make mistakes so I wouldnt worry about the LPG bit............I think the car is priced ok without been a bargain........personally I would try and find another car with less owners for the same money.it will make selling it on easier at a later stage........also unless you are an expert yourself have the car inspected.early 996s had some quality problems.
northway also had a nice black c2 with gt3 kit for 39995, i rang to try and buy the car with cash, no px and was promptly told when asked about a discount its 39995 end of story if you want the car you pay the price(well he was slightly ruder than that), ive never been spoken to so rudely by any one when trying to buy something in my life and consequently wouldnt buy anything of them if they were the only dealer in the world, bit strong but whoever sells there cars need some customer care skills and his attitude problem sorted out.
I know nothing about Northway - someone just mentioned a cheap sounding 996 on here recently. Always 2 sides to a story, but the same happened to me at Cridfords once and I won't touch them with a bargepole, nor recommend them to anyone on that basis.
By the same token, Portiacraft couldn't have been more friendlier, despite the fact they must get more tyrekickers than anyone at their premises, but I bet someone somewhere has had grumpy service from them - it's just human nature.
Anyway, the only 996 with a GT3 kit worth buying is a GT3, don't waste your money on one so kitted out, IMHO it's Max Power....and don't buy one in Guards Red as I'm sure you'll have trouble selling it on.

Maybe he had heard you were shopping for a TVR then a zenith 996 and now a black 996....
Once you are serious about your purchase..go down..look them in the eye and negotiate....

I'm sure Ray could have thrown in a free service in 12k miles time if he couldn't move on price. Wouldn't have cost him much

I must admit that total inflexibility and an inability to do any kind of favours to people is a turn off to me. Whether I am getting a good deal or not, I like to *think* I am, and that I could borrow the dealer's missus if I asked nicely enough. Henry F has already promised me Sharon for an evening at the Odeon, eh, Henners?
