No frost on the car this morning, so I hopped in and drove to the top of my road.

Turned out, quite gently and the car started sliding across the road! Lifted off and it all settled down, but every gentle touch of the throttle sent the tail sliding.

Got down the hill and around the corner and had another couple of slidey moments, but by now I was expecting it.

Went about 2 miles to a roundabout and found a Police car there, lights flashing, with a car 5-10 yards off the road - must've spun off on the roundabout.

Another mile or so and there's a police car blocking a road - another accident!

Seems Hampshire CC have run out of salt or just got taken unawares by black ice last night!

Did they just use it all up during the snow and ice before Christmas? Be careful out there!

Same here, road looked a little frosty, I pulled away with 1300cc of pure 8v powah and the wheels started spinning up.

Deceptivley dangerous this morning.

Coming through Sandhust this morning was the same. Saw a few cars ditched here and there. Only 1.5c this morning as well so didn't think it would be that bad...

Yep yesterday in Essex my wife's Primera P12 estate (on summer tyres) was slipping on unseen little patches and that was after gritters were out the night before.

Very odd as it slipped more than when we had lots of snow.

Some roads near me had thick frost over them yesterday morning. They were sufficiently bad that I could provoke immediate wheelspin by touching the throttle, and the car was slipping and squirming as I drove along it. Car felt at least as bad when we'd had snow to be honest!

I had to pull a woman out of a ditch after she slid off in front of me doing 6-8mph, seen quite a few other accidents over last few days, seems they are being very conservative with the grit this year!

Must say that I seem to be able to grip better than other cars with the winter tyres on thoughgetmecoat

I had a 'moment' on Christmas Day! On the way to the in-laws and I approached a bend joining the M56 at about 50mph that can usually be taken easily at much higher. The car went all light and for a split second went straight on towards the hard-shoulder and armco yikes

I don't think Mrs A realised but I shat mysen. I assumed oil on the road, or because the roads were so quiet there might have been some ice that hadn't been melted by other traffic. Or maybe I'm just crap.

I think it's possible to buy tyres which have their grip optimised for wintry conditions.

Dunno, I'm sure there was a thread on here about them earlier. Hang on, I'll go and have a look...

...nope, couldn't find anything. How odd.

Wasn't by Gibraltar Barracks was it? I got stuck there for ages this morning and had to turn around and go through Camberley to get to the M3.

Rozzers, Ambwilans and Fire Service were all out in force.

There was a line in 'Metro' this morning about the met office warning the public that 'winter isn't over'.

No st, it's the 10th of January.

It was the apparent lack of frost that was the surprise - I don't recall ever experiencing the odd combination of a frost free car and lawn and extremely slippery roads.

You must have been at the Milford round-a-bout onto the A3?

I didn't notice anything in Guildford this morning, did see the gritters out last night all over the place though.

I went out for an early morning run Yesterday in my Evo as it was a lovely sunny morning. Did about 4 miles, and turned round and came home. The roads were like glass in places. Loads of grip and then nothing, causing a few moments of testicles fighting for grip. Discretion being the better part of valour, I came home and took the dogs for a walk instead.

Slightly damp roads with overnight frost, suspect there will be a fair few insurance claims today..

The M3 had an "advisory" notice of 20mph. Absolutely fine doing it at 70...ish.

The m1 had 30 signs, but they haven't come out with a sign that said , slip roads is where your going to crash, car in the barrier at nearly every slip road

On the A10 between Royston and the M25 this morning there were at least ten independant accidents, cars in the ditch, through the hedge, wrapped round trees. The road was closed in two places -chaos!!
