Well, the wife and kids would rather go to London for a week during Easter than New York biggrin

So, you Londinians, any tips on where to stay that's clean, relatively central, nice, and not too dear? I'm guessing that anything within a half an hour underground ride to the centre would be okay? Any 'avoid' areas?

Also, we want to do the London Eye, Madam Tussauds, The Natural History Museum, and see a West End Show or two whilst we're there. Anything else I've overlooked?

Thanks.

Science Museum.

And while you're at the Eye, pop into the London Aquarium (under County Hall by the Eye).

I wouldn't bother with Madame Tussauds, tbh.

Stick to the heritage and REAL information available for children to learn 'stuff'.

British Museum
Galleries: e.g. Tate Modern (if I've recalled the correct gallery) has a load of interactive stuff for children

ETA: the best sight my children saw in London was a Pelican eating a pigeon in Green Park laugh
We've pictures to prove!

Madam Tussauds is crap, don't waste your time.

Go to:

Natural History Museum
Science Museum
British Museum
Camden Market on a Saturday or Sunday
London Eye
National Art Gallery
Tate Modern
Tower of London

Edit to add, the above depends on how old your kids are.

Two girls, 15 & 13.

And they watch all the celebrity crap on the television, hence their need to go and see some waxworks of their idols frown

Madame Tussaud's is dreadful and you will have to queue for ages to get in and be disappointed. Avoid.

Be amazed at how competitive the restaurants are in and around piccadilly....

I have never seen so many 'Angus Steak Houses' and 'Spaghetti House'.

They are EVERYWHERE spin

Do not under any circumstances ever eat at any of these.

Don't eat in an 'Angus Steak House'....

Your kids might like Camden Market. I personally aren't such a fan. That said there are a few good pubs nearby if you wanted to chill out for a bit.

Covent Garden is worth seeing. Go to the real ale pub above the pasty shop.

Greenwich Park and the Meridian are nice for a stroll (get off the DLR on the Cutty Sark stop and go for a walk around or take the tunnel under the river).

Should be fine then, plus they'll think you're really 'cool' for taking them.
