This has cheered me up- thought if I knackered the bolt it'd be well and truely knackered. Think I'll get all the others bolted down n then take it to someone with more skill than me to run a die down itCheers
If you try to run a die over a damaged thread there is every chance you will make the damage the whole length of the thread. The best thing for a damaged thread as someone else said is a thread file, this can ride in two or three undamaged threads to act as a guide to remove the misplaced material.
A die might run the route the misplaced material wants it to, thus crossthreading the whole bolt. Once filed use a die to finish up, or you can use a needle file to remove the burr and then "die" it.
