Has anyone taken advantage of this and collected their new pride and joy fro the factory?
I am thinking of taking the trip to maranello to enjoy a spirited drive home and just wonder what others who have don ethis before me would say looking back.
Having visited the factory before a walk along the production line wouldn't be top of my list. A quick spin round the track before setting off would be good. What do you get over and above a UK dealer handover?

....relieved of more cash perchance?! Porsche charge about £1k for the privilege of saving them the time, money and risk of delivering your car to you banghead

Spirited drive home? Never owned a ferrari myself but I imagine theres some running in mileage to be done. Could be quite frustrating.

The engine will be run-in on the bench.

I'm sure you can't redline it in every gear away from the factory, but you'd be able to give it some berries in confidence...

Don't be so grumpy, it included flights, hotel, dinner, factory tour and handover, lunch in their excellent Christophorous restaurant and then 7 days fully comp insurance.

Personally I thought it was not a bad deal, I really enjoyed it and it made hardly any difference to the overall invoice for my 997 GT2.

Maranello to home, that's around 1000 miles.

Does that mean you can't use your F car for the next 3 years to keep the mileage down? wink

Ha ha! Maybe I am being a bit grumpy smile It still strikes me as a bit cheeky though, you're effectively paying £1k for half of a weekend break. Like you said though, by the time you've specced a GT2, it's not gonna make a lot of difference. I still think it should be free given that they'll probably save money over all anyway.

Wonder what they'd say if you told them you were going to organise flights etc and just pitch up at the factory waiting for them to give you the keys!

When the car arrives back in the UK it gets dropped to the dealer, where they have to UK register it, PDI it again and do another (obviously briefer) handover. All they save is the cost of transportation from Stuttgart to the UK, which I doubt costs Porsche more than a few hundred quid at best.

Anyway, back on topic, I personally would collect any decent car from the factory if I could, as it's a great excuse for a trip.

My car has been built and I am off to collect from the factory as soon as FNE (Ferrari GB) give me a couple of dates that I can fit in with.
From what I understand you get a tour of the factory, and handover of the car and lunch in the restaurant opposite the factory and then you are on your way.

Your dealer will fly over to the factory with you. However, Ferrari don’t have an 'official' factory collection system (like Mercedes, Porsche etc do) so they only have a few dates each month where they offer customers the chance to collect from the factory, and it used to be that you could only collect V12 or special cars from the factory. Not sure if this is still the case.

Hope this may help, I will hopefully know for certain what it entails in a few weeks time!

Please report back - would love to hear about the trip! The drive home will be awesome too!

Thanks all. For those going to maranello do please email me with your experience or even better post on this thread with a few pics. I'll happily post a review if I take up the option

458 for me, there is a GTO available for mid summer build but I think they are too fast and too £££. I reckon they will depreciate at some point and then I might be persuaded.

Too fast?! Coming from the guy with the F50 laugh

You are right though, it will be a proper license loser and will need some massive self restraint not to go in triple figures!

Mrs BC and I collected a 360 Spider from the factory some years ago. It was a fantastic experience. As somebody said previously you get a factory tour and lunch. Just beware of the alcohol. They wanted me to drink wine with lunch then a bottle of Ferrari bubbly when they unwrap the car! I did not want to drive my pride & joy thru the factory gates p*****d.spin

I promise you the 599 GTO is a hell of alot easier to drive really quickly on the road than the F50, so is the 458. For starters you can count on the electronics to keep you out of the ditch!
But it also feels quite a bit quicker than the F50, even if it isn't!? The paddles just egg on you on if you ask me
