I am looking for a new TV for the living room
I currently have a 26" LG which I bought a few years ago, its a 720p set
This will be shifted to the bedroom
I have read stuff about distance from the TV and I sit about 6' away (at a guess)
Would this be the right size for me? What do PH think of this TV?

Budget is £500 max and I would like Freeview HD built in
Sound will be going through A/V Amp so thats fine
Any thoughts?

That's going to seem quite big at 6', considered a 37" ?
Bought a Sony 40EX401 and very happy with it, so consider that one too
This was my worry, but we are renting so a move in the next 12-18 months will probably be on the cards, I am future proofing myself Bought a Sony 40EX401 and very happy with it, so consider that one too
I have had a look at the Sony out of my budget though I think
Well I've just been to Comet on the way home for a little look( I wouldn't buy from there)
I saw the Samsung I like and the Sony mentioned, between these 2 I would have to say the Sony wins even on the shut signal in Comet
buuuuuut
They have a 42" LED LG for £549 and it looked gorgeous, ok it did have a BRay playing which obviously helped, but now I am torn
Main uses will be films DVD quality I don't have a BRay at the moment, watching TV including footy and gaming on my xbox
The 42 LED doesnt have Freeview HD built in, which was and probably in all honesty remains a key requirement
Do I go for the extra 2" or do I stick with the 40 and get the Bravia?
Are Sony generally considered better than Samsung?
John how are you finding the Sony? Do you game?

For PQ I think Plasma is the way forward, but perhaps an increase in budget or loss of features.
You need to have a look at them side by side with the same sources and be given time to set the settings to something realistic for your home environment and the stuff you watch. A bit hard to do that in Currys but hopefully RS/JL or an independent will be more accommodating.
I find the Sony great to use, good interface, great picture, built in iPlayer/Lovefilm/DLNA, and I can't fault the picture on a mix of SD / HD from Freeview and encoded blu-ray (but I am no perfectionist in these matters). Not sure about games, my PS2 is showing its age now

Cheers for this, I am set on the Panny Plasma for now as it has Freeview HD and Freesat HD built in as well as great reviews across the board, it's being phased out though, so if I can't get one then I think the Sony is the next stop You need to have a look at them side by side with the same sources and be given time to set the settings to something realistic for your home environment and the stuff you watch.
