any Version 6 STi Type R owners here?
Discussion
I've read conflicting reports on the ac/climate, some sources say that the MY2000 cars had climate, some say just AC.
WRT to the boot lids, is what you're saying applicable to the Type R? They dont have a different boot lid to your normal range of WRXs?
AS you can probably guess if I get one it'll be despoilered, and possibly after having a front mount fitted have a sport bonnet fitted too.

my spec C's just had an aircon button, not climate like my jdm sti's, not that it makes much difference.

Very much want to, like I said in the OP it very much depends on my pay review in September. edit: just realised I didnt mention that in the OP, oh well
But yeah, depends on pay review.
I may even go completely the other way and do economical motoring for a year whilst saving for something better.

For the same price you can have better - an Evo RS I may even go completely the other way and do economical motoring for a year whilst saving for something better.

I'd like an EVO, but thats yet another step up in insurance and running costs. Plus I want a coupé.

ETA - are you sure about the insurance? Some of the specialists are cheaper than you think and running costs are not as bad as you may imagine using an indy. Fuel is crippling but then it is in a scoob.

Front mount will add a little lag. I know you want to keep it stealth / low key but anyone with half a brain will be able to tell what it is and those who know nothing about them will see it as a fast car just because it is an Imprezza.
A friend of mine has a lovely Type R with the DCCD gearbox... nice cars....

I was only joking, I'd have an STI Type R in a shot. I'm one of the few non fan-boys that can appreciate both marques equally.
Ditto, would also like a Tommi Mak one day. rhinochopig said:

Yeah the quotes I've had are all about 10-15% higher on an EVO than a Scoob. To be frank though I havent rung round any specialists yet. I had what they term an SVA may last year which I'm told bumps up your insurance significantly for one year hence, so I'm waiting for that to pass before seriously getting quotes. Also I've always understood that EVOs are more juicy on fuel??

Also I've always understood that EVOs are more juicy on fuel??The Evo's are (IMO) sharper more spikey cars to drive - which is what appeals to me - but you can't beat the scooby burble and looks. That said, as has been said, you can set both up how you like.
Yeah I've often heard the Evo is more hardcore, which tbh does put me off a little.
Sure, the Type-R will be stiff as road cars go, but likely no harder than my MR2 or Charade was.
Plus, if I do buy an R and theres no evidence of a suspension refresh it'd be getting one which I'd aim to balance between fast road and comfort. Along the lines of how cars which have OEM bilsteins feel.

I got Bilstein on my Legacy.. they are great...Sure, the Type-R will be stiff as road cars go, but likely no harder than my MR2 or Charade was.

Although my next mod is a set of BC Racing coilovers mainly due to the good reviews i have read about them.

My MR2 is running OEM bilstein suspension and I installed Bilstein shocks and springs on my Charade. They are very good.
AFAIK though Bilsteins are not available for the GC8, happy to be corrected though.

Had you tried one? I had a Type R a few years ago, honestly they aren't that stiff. A modern Audi or BMW is worse. Don't forget it is a rally rep, not a super low slung supercar (although the performance isn't far off ;-)) There is still an awful lot suspension travel and compliance built in, I didn't find it to be an issue at all. It does like a drink however, especially if it has the short ratio gearbox. Expect about 22-25 mpg in average stop start driving, a bit higher on the motorway and high teens if you are enthusiastic.Sure, the Type-R will be stiff as road cars go, but likely no harder than my MR2 or Charade was.

I've driven a couple of classics but never an STi-R, if they are that compliant then I guess I'd reconsider changing the suspension.
22-25 on my daily commute I can live with, I get 24/25 out of my MR2.
I doubt if a suspension change will be necessary. You could probably improve the mpg quite a bit too by driving off boost. It was my fun car so I never really tried (besides it's very difficult to be sensible with that burble almost egging you on)22-25 on my daily commute I can live with, I get 24/25 out of my MR2.
Not wishing to fall foul of the name and shame. If you're considering buying BCs, it might be worth your time to have a read of this thread http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=268...
