Playing up on me

Every now and again I get a problem similar to clicking the mouse button extremely fast, continuously - explorer opens 20+ windows, and if I move the cursor over anything, it instantly actions it. I've run AVG, have Zone Alarm, Spybot and Adaware on 2-3 day scanning cycles - nothing shows up - any ideas what's wrong? Is it hardware related? As soon as I reboot all goes back to normal.

Sounds Hardware. Change the Mouse as it sounds like a problem there.
