As part of my new extension the bedroom will be linked via cat 5 to the living room where my PC lives.

I have a lot of films on the PC (in MKV format mainly).

Basically I want a Freesat HD box that can also stream these to my telly, does something that'll do that exist??

Pretty sure the Humax HDR does, as well as the Panasonic offerings, which also include a DVD or Blu Ray recorder.

The Humax one can play music and video files from USB devices, but the interface is horribly clunky (it's all done via directory structure rather than artist, album, etc.) and I don't think it will play via a network. As far as I can tell, all the network does is connect to internet to allow the iPlayer and to update itself.

Humax HDR does not do network, just iPlayer. But I believe the next gen, due out later this year or early next will have a media player type functionality. Don't quote me on that though.

I've got the Humax.

Yes it does it but, as the chap said above, is far too clunky to be acceptable.

Overall it's a great box but the interface has much room for improvement.
