I didnt want to post this for fear of opening another can of worms, the type that eat my wallet... but,

Should the rear wheels look like the rear of a beetle??

What Im saying is that the camber looks crazy! about 15mm out to from bottom to top.

Im not sure if perhaps I need to change the trailing arm pins or adjust the shims on the diff to adjust it?

It might also have somthing to do woth the 225 50 15s recently fitted?

Your thoughts!

Trailing arm wedges always have rear camber, can be dialed out with shims on the propshafts.

My A-frame 350i also had massive negative rear camber, it turned out to be a combination of wheel bearings, driveshaft U.J.s, wishbone bushes AND worn down wishbone bolts!

Mine had different camber on each wheel, Turned out to be the bearings in the dif shot, new brakes new pads new handbrake pads and so on and on....680 notes in total. Cant moan like thats all it cost apart from service bits in five years. oh aye and loads of £££'s in rusty nails.

Just let about 15psi out of each tyre
Howsit look now, better.smile

Swing your gauge round to check your toe in first, if that's good then go ahead and shim out the drive shafts. Jag dealer 80s Xj

With regard to the tyres it depends what you had on before, if you up the diameter then the camber will become more neg.

Thanks All

I have checked the bottom hub bolt and the trailing arm bushes and they are tight with no play in them, the diff has a bit of play on the prop so this might affect the camber a little, but not too much.
The wheels were 195 45 16s before I replaced them with the Oz splits 225 50 15s so the radius shouldnt have changed, but the width of tyre on the road has, and Im pretty sure the offset has changed, i.e the wheels now sit a lot wider and there is no gap between the arches and the wheels.
Im thinking that if I adjust the camber out too much it will firstly affect handling but may also start rubbing the arches, so if there is no other obvious and/or dangerous reason for the massive camber I think I might leave well alone.
Besides, it looks mean as hell sitting as it does, and from the rear it looks like a sumo!

Stu

ETA, Ill also assume that it will scrub the tyres out a lot quicker, so if I drop the running pressure down from 28 psi to around 24 then that should help??

What the condition of your springs as if it's sitting low you will get more neg camber,
So maybe worth replacing the springs, or put some more packing under them.
The extra height may help solve 2 problems.

Funny you should mention packing Leigh!
When I changed the shocks and springs earlier this year I did find two 10mm packers under the drivers side rear spring, but none under the passenger side!

The shocks and springs were off of a 400, Im sure i spoke to you about the spherical bearing mod that I did to the shock too!

I didnt replace the packers, and it hasnt affected the levels or ride height at all, so perhaps the packers were done because of the original spring being a bit tired!

To be honest, it might be easier to stick some bags of sand in the boot!!

umm 20mm should have made some difference.
Bags of sand in the boot would make it worse though would it not.

Mmm..My rear wheels look like the car is being squashed..The n/s front is about 5mm from the front of the arch and the o/s is about 2"..Is it the caster on the front that needs doing?..I do plan on putting it into Dan taylors if i decide to keep it as all the money ive spent is jobs done at the end of the day although there is still a possibility i might not..Cheers..Ziga

Yep, you're right, I need to decrease the length of the drive shafts, not increase them.. wink
