whatever you do make sure it hasn't got the alcantara interior.
Its been shown to be the most unpopular resale item and very uncomfortable. The material begins to decompose after about 9 years or 200k and you end up having to replace the whole lot....
Looks like a 2002 525d Sport Avus Blue Edition to me, so it'll have a manual box and alcantara. Its been shown to be the most unpopular resale item and very uncomfortable. The material begins to decompose after about 9 years or 200k and you end up having to replace the whole lot....

It is a shame it does not have leather although the Alcantara is in excellent condition. I will keep my eye out for a leather interior....
PS if anybody has a leather interior to sell, please PM me.

OP, I was just reading your thread in GG - I think you've done well there at that price
Probably a tidy profit if you wanted to polish it up and sell it on...
Thanks Matt!Probably a tidy profit if you wanted to polish it up and sell it on...

Hiya
I'd also agree with the poster who said isn't is worth asking what to look out for prior to purchase?!
Now that you have bought it, have a look at all the common issue area's of the E39's and these models in particular. it'll be up to you on how you resolve those common issue areas or any problems that become apparent as you look around the car.
Alcantara is a lovely material and can indeed look good on interiors. However it does wear and I still question using it on seats. Great on Ferrari's and Supercars where owners wouldn't think much of a 2-3 grand retrim, but on more modest cars.. not really. I do love alcantara myself, I have my steering wheel in alcantara and will be looking to do the headliner and A,B,C pillars done as well along with a few other areas too. I'd also suggest in perhaps looking into swapping to a leather interior although finding an excellent condition one is very hard nowadays. Those that are, espeically Sport ones, hold strong money - certainly around the £500 mark.
You could expect perhaps £175-250 for the alcantara interior that you have depending upon condition.
My E39 530d touring has around 206,000 on it, and Iknow of another Sport Saloon a 2002 530d with around 211,000 on it. So long as you maintain and service these engines well, they'll go on and on.
Cheers, Dennis!
