Intermittant fault with the primer.........

This has only started in the past few days - I put the keys in, turn ignition on, press the button and the primer kicks in............. next time it doesn't!!!! So I leave her for a while and try again and hey presto, it primes!!! This is annoying to say the least - has anyone got any ideas? It is not due to a hot-start problem, happens when cold as well.

Do you mean the fuel pump?
Check the relay in the footwell. there are 2 metal cased relays in the loom, one of them is the fuel pump relay and it's not unusual for them to break down. YOu can swap it round with the other one as a sort of test but they're not expensive so worth getting a spare.
