'Sneaky'???

They clearly explained that it's impossible for an unmarked patrol car to see up into the cabin of a HGV. They must've caught 6 drivers on their 'phones, one bloke eating his dinner, and another bloke steering with his knees.

Interesting that the one they stopped was twice the drink-drive limit and had ten cans of 'Special Brew' in the cab.

Yeah, they're sneaky b'stards all right. Going round catching pi$$ed HGV drivers talking on their 'phones. Who do they think they are? The Law???

So sneaky in fact it was trialled and reported on the news in 2009 and reported on national news in Oct 2010....

First I'd heard of it but a tractor unit on it's own is pretty unusual and a plain white one even more rare so shouldn't be too hard to spot.

The driver who'd been on the booze was very scary and truckers have no excuse for not using a hands free setup considering new trucks come with them as standard and retrofitting one would count as a business expense.

As far as i see it, if people break the law, then they deserve to be caught, no matter what the method. It's not sneaky at all.

The BiB are allowed to break the speed limit in order to catch offenders, so there is doubt that the speed limiter had been bypassed wink

The cop truck was just the cab, no 40 foot of trailer behind him. So he had the same power, but about 40 tonnes less weight to haul around. He was able to accelerate fairly rapidly compared to the other HGV's, no idea what speed he was able to get it up to though???

Makes no differance.. If the speed limiter was working then they wouldn't be able to exceed 56mph (level ground, BHP of the tractor unit). Oh and the weight limit is 44 tonnes gross wink

They borrow tractor units from different places, so by the time it's on TV, you can bet they are using a different one.
