Recommend me a bag

Hi guys,

After some time out I have just got back into photography, my main focus is street and night shots so a lot of walking around locations etc.

I have just purchased a 450D with grip and 2 lenses, 18-55 and 55-250.

I will also be ordering a nifty fifty lens, Flash, memory cards, tripod and various cleaning accessories etc.

Can someone recommend me a good bag to take all my kit out with? Budget up to around £70 I guess however I'd happily spend £30 and equally can go over £70 if needs be.

I use a lowepro one that's been good, given the choice again I'd probably by the backpack type and buy one that's about a third bigger than what you need it for just now.
Buying gear can become a habit.

Yeah I forgot to mention I want a Lowepro and would also consider a backpack type bag!

I've got a Lowepro Fastpack 350 which was big enough . . but is overcrowded now (2 extra lanses

I bought a lowepro slingshot 202 recently, ace bag can get my 40d, three lens, flash etc in to it. There is a tripod strap on the side.

Comfortable to wear and easy to use.

I think I have made my mind up on a Lowepro Flipside 300.

Anyone used it?

I had a Lowepro Slingshot (well I've still got it, just dont' use it) and really liked it at first, but I found it a bit uncomfortable at times, so I tended to wear it slung over my shoulder like a satchel rather than on my back. In the end I got a Crumpler Muffin Top instead:

It comes in a load of different sizes and colours and it's a really nice bag. I forget which number I bought, but I get my D300 with lens plus 2 extra lenses, SB600 flash, remote, filters etc and a Ricoh GX100 in no problems. Nice quality and it comes in brown too, so it's not quite so obviously a camera bag, useful for not advertising your expensive kit.

Not well informed enough to recommend a specific bag but for organic shooting I like the discipline of a backpack - take out what you need and keep it about your person; carry on wearing the backpack. Doesn't really upset your balance or flexibility and means you can keep moving if you feel in any way insecure in your surroundings.

Not used one but have 2 lowepro bags and got my dad a slingshot type one. All are decent quality, I don't think you'll go wrong with lowepro.

Alternatives are the mini trekker and the vertex 100.

I was about to recommend just this when I saw your note. I love mine!

You can put it on the ground if you need to rummage around and then put it back on without the worry of mud. It's at it's best when travelling in 'risky' locations as it is physically impossible for anyone to break into.

I have a flipside 400aw which I like. 300 doesnt have the rain cover and is a little smaller I think.

I have a bag for every occasion!

• Lowepro Flipside 400 for when I take everything
• Crumpler Muffintop 5500 shoulder bag for when I want to bring 1 or 2 small spare lenses only
• Lowepro Apex 120 (small shoulder bag - my first purchase) for when I just take the camera with a small lens

I also have a Slingshot 300 lying around taking up space which I keep meaning to put on eBay. Like someone else said, liked it at first but then found it uncomfortable and the sling method was a pain when wearing a coat.

The Flipside is great but I find it a little small for all the extras like filters, water, lens cloth, hat, gloves, etc, etc, etc.

Amazon are doing the flipside 300 for £43 at the moment!

A used one sold on TP today for £45!

Its a good size bag in mine I have...

450d with grip
100mm lens
50mm lens
580 flash
18-55 lens
70-300 lens
And numerous other bits...

At the moment it is about £60 from Amazon.

I use a Kata DR465, which has the advantage of not looking like a camera bag and has a reasonably sized separate compartment where you can carry sandwiches or whatever. Surprisingly cheap, too.
