On top of STILL running about with only one Xenon (HIDS4U sent the wrong replacements) now my upper windscreen rubber trim is flapping about.

I had a windscreen replaced last week due to excessive chipping, so what I want to confirm is:

Is the loose trim directly related to the windscreen being fitted wrongly?

It has been fine for about a week until breaking free today at 70mph scaring the st out of me.

I've been onto AutoWindscreens but I'd like more info.

Its not the best fit in the first place but yes they would have to take it off and refit to put the window. I would say it is there job to refit it so that it dose not come off.

the clips which hold the trim in normally break when removed, you will probably want to remove the trim and see if the clips are broken. It almost always happens when the window is changed. Sometimes the window fitters just don't clip them back correctly to the clips which didn't break

Interesting.

Am still waiting for the rectification department to call me back. 3 promised return calls in so far.

confused

The top trim slots over the edge of the glass before the windscreen goes onto the car and 'set' in place. Part of this positioning is to push down/pull up so that the glass and trim is flush against the roof and square in the recess (and that the VIN window is alligned).

If your trim has come off, it might be that they re-used the old one and didn't fit it back on correctly; it could be that the screen has been set too low, or that the the trim is a universal 'this will do' jobbie.

I think RKDE is referring to the L&R mouldings which, in any case is not accurate.

Sorry the top is just slipped in and mine had a clip in the middle and was snugly pushed around the screen, it was not held by the windscreen glue as I lifted it off before removing the screen, from factory that is.

I was on about the lower trim not sure why... Must have miss read it.

As you can see there is a clip in the middle top, but I am not sure if that is normal across all models? Also the trim was held in place each end by trim and perhaps a screw? been over a year since I took the screen out

Top trim is a single moulding that slots over the glass before the screen goes in.

Left and right trims are clipped and screwed.

The bottom mouldings are two halves joined together with a double 'male' joiner. The assembly is clipped on to the body and lips over the bottom of the glass; there's also a screw at either end.

I have never seen a clip, or screw(s) for the top.

Only ever took one windscreen out so I have nothing to compare it too but I removed the top trim from the clip before I took the glass out... If you have seen more then your probably more in the know, I can only say what I have seen

Been replacing Mini windscreens and glass ever since they were launched in the UK - yet to see a clip on the top.

As an aside - just had a look at your project via your blog. Like it. thumbup

Off topic but how much is a windscreen for a mini? I do need one but I don't think I will get away claiming through the insurance smile they may notice the car is slightly shorter

Glad you like the blog too, wish I could just finish the car though...

I've removed the trim now as being taped down wasnt working. Still not heard back from rectification department and now have condensation/misting on windscreen.

Is this condensation related to the windscreen fit?

Sounds like they need to start over with this one.

Have a look along the top and towards the middle - can you see a blob (the most common place a lot of techs join the glue) ?

Aftermarket will be considerably cheaper than OEM. Fitting yourself or...?

I probably will fit it myself, though I have never done it. I don't see it being too hard (maybe wrong there) Don't care if it is OEM as I am going to have to cut it down to size anyway, I may collect a few from a breaker so I have a spare should I need it

Cut it down, ah, yes. How are you planning to do this?

I can put you in touch with someone who'll supply you a screen or three at trade prices (and someone who can help you with cutting them down, or even making them to size).

That would really help me out.

Currently I have a few options but my favourite way is a water jet as this will cut cleanly without cracking or producing heat, second is the sand blasting method and the third is a cutting disk which I do not want to do
