My early 1.7 Puma has all the wiring for an internal electric tailgate release, but apparently no switch to press. where should the switch be, and is it possible the electric tailgate release wasn't activated on the early models ?

Tailgate release works off the remote locking key only on my 2000 mdl yr Millie.
3 buttons on the key, door lock, door unlock, and remote tailgate release.

Many thanks for the reply. My remote locking key only has 2 buttons so the wiring to the lock is a mystery.

Hi,
Had this problem with the wifes car (1998). Remote locking failed and boot lock siezed from years of no use. If you remove the plastic on the drivers "A" pillar near your feet. You will find the control box. It is the orange wire. I just fitted a push switch into one of the blanks by the clock. Obvisouly I had to cut the orange wire and extend it to the switch. Had to do this for the mot as the tester wanted to check the rear turrets for corrosion. Was going to be an aborted test if boot would not open. Hope this helps.
Andy..
