Rear Exhaust Box
Discussion
I keep reading all these posts on people ripping their back boxes open to take all the baffles out and I am interested in improving the noise levels on the Griff. However, am I being really stupid but would it not be as cost effective to have a rear box with no baffling made in s/s and keep the original one as a spare (not sure why yet - maybe picky MOT station or policeman). This would certainly help us as the car is used daily.
Tim, maybe you could comment on prices as the ripping open an rewelding concensus seems to be around the £120 mark.

AFAIK, the system is in one piece of stainless from the 'Y' piece to the back. What you suggest would involve cutting the existing pipe and fitting at least one joint in it. IIRC the exhaust of Chims and Griffs goes from two (each manifold) into one (Y piece) via cats (if fitted
)to a single pipe of about 3" diameter into a box of about 15" long and then out into the twin tail pipes.
So, cut the box out and put 2 joins in, or just mod the box? Costs would be more for the swappable box surely?

Absolutely correct, I had my exhaust modified by Peninsula in this way cost around £120 but that was a couple of years agao!
Mr and Mrs flipflop,
Have a word with Wixer (Phil red griff 500) and me at the next meet or on the WarksTVR forum.
We did mine in January, cost a fiver for a couple of pipes did the rest ourselves. I was given a donor exhaust so have retained the original item.
Phils was done whilst having his upgrade same process as mine.
Sounded really nice tonight on the way to pick up a curry in Radford (Coventry)
