Just acquired one of these, picking it up next week biggrin

Anyone had a re-map done, wondering what results are achievable and what's the effect on mpg?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm taking delivery of a 123d coupe on Monday and have been looking at the options to remap it, the superchips bluefin is meant to give good results and you can use it to revert back to the standard map for trips back to dealer etc too. Once mine has worn in after a couple of thousand miles I'll be ordering one.

Have a look here - http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=3&fuelt...

An extra 50bhp and 68lb/ft for £455 sounds good to me!

If you'd prefer a remap that's been properly tailored to your individual car on a rolling road then check out DMS or Evolve who are two of the more reputable companies.

You'll find a lot of info on the 1 series here too - http://www.babybmw.net/forum/index.php

Let us know how the results if you get it done!

The Bluefin leaves a trail shouting 'I have been remapped!!!' as soon as they plug into diagnotics at the dealer, so I would only go with that is you are out of warranty, and definitely don't drive round without your insurance knowing.

Interesting, I had read that the trail that the bluefin leaves behind had been resolved on the later models? I'll have to do some more research before I take the plunge! Anyone on here have experience of using one? Cheers

I remapped my 320d via Bluefin ... but decided to revert it back to standard and get my money back. This was not the fault of the map - which was actually very excellent biggrin ... but because I decided I didn't need the extra performance it gave after all.

Once back to standard - and after reading loads about Bluefin leaving shed loads of fault codes, etc - I plugged my car into a Bosch diagnostics computer ... a £5000 bit of kit.

How many fault codes showed up on my 2008 320d ? Two !!

Both as effectively advised by Superchips - one for the auto box and one for the ABS. The codes related to a loss of communication with the main ECU when the Bluefin device cuts the 'link' temporarily during the reflash / remap process. The Bluefin unit had reset any other fault codes created by the 'reflash' process but they did say these two would most likely remain as their unit can't clear everything.

I cleared the remaining codes and the car has been standard since.

Now, this relates to my car and not one newer ... or indeed a 123d. I did find, though, that Superchips were straightforward to deal with and honest with what they said. I didn't keep the map on this occasion but would certainly use them again.

Yes the unit leaves fault codes but not the number people told me it would on my car and nothing I would have been worried about.

Oh, and FWIW the car was 177bhp on a rolling road as standard and went to 215bhp on the same rolling road after their map - so, it felt like it worked and the figures backed that up.

Interesting, thanks.

I'm looking at the Autologic re-map, ups figures to approx 247bhp & 355lbs/ft @ 2,000rpm biggrin

Anyone had this one done?

Will also look at the dms I think.

Cheers

I think Autologic use the same device as Evolve .... which works in the same way as the Bluefin device and leaves the same traces ... no more, no less ... AFAIK. Have no idea on their map though ... but haven't seen anything bad. Figures about right for a 123d.

The chap carrying out the re-map says it is completely invisible for servicing and does not show up, he also says if BMW re-programme, Autologic basiclly email the map back to them and they will reinstate it for no charge.

Fitted a 'Dragon' tuning box to my existing 520d and it did make a big difference performance wise and also raised the mpg from approx 45 to over 50 average.

I must admit, it does sound tempting....

Mine was remapped by Will at P-Torque in Wolverhampton almost 3 years ago and I've had no issues at the dealers during this time. Remap produced 255bhp and 363lb/ft on the dyno.

MPG has stayed excatly the same at 42.1 during the time I've owned and I saw no change when the map was done. I think those that drive more conservatively have seen slight improvements but only small.

Over on babybmw you will find good reviews for Will at P-Torque, Evolve, Simon at Emaps, Superchips.

My understanding as of a couple of months ago was that the bluefin handset, the bit you swap your car back to standard with, was not compatible with the latest ecu's. That may have changed???

Some tuners will offer a warranty as standard, such as Evolve, whereas Will at P-Torque can arrange it but most customers don't bother. How good these warranties actually are is probably arguable, and I don't know of many babybmw members who've had to use one.

I've concluded that all maps will leave some kind of trace if a dealer wants to look for it, however they will never bother during usual servicing and it would have to be a special case for them to bother. One of the babybmw members had a failed turbo replaced around 2 months after remapping and he had no issues.

I would definitely have it done again, hope that helps smile
