hey people ! does anyone know anything about my m3 i purchased 18 months ago i bought it damaged & have no history with it. i have contacted the previous owner who said it had a good service history, i have been in touch with bmw but they can only give me dates when it visited dealers but cant/wont tell me what for. it was bought from bedford & visited the workshop many times the reg no is kj04 tdx. also am thinkin of selling but fear its not worth alot due to its unclear past, it only has 57k on it. any ideas anyone ??? many thanks for your replies in advance. barry

I did similar. I've just bought an E46 M3 and was sold it without service booklet and history etc. I suppose I could have been lucky, but I just called BMW and spoke to possibly the most helpful (and attractive sounding!!) lady who told me step by step where it had been serviced. She also told me that I could just get in contact with the garages where it was done and provide them with a V5 proving ownership and they could stamp the booklet for me (after I bought a new blank one).

Don't know if it made a difference, but it turned out that the last service was done at a main dealer, so I suppose they could have had the record from when that service was done. Could be worth another call to them though?

ok i will give it another try, i think it was about a year ago i last tried to trace the history. it has had work done under bmw warranty as late as 2008 so surely it must all be tracable if it had a warranty on it. thanks for your reply i really appreciate it ...

I would guess that if they'd done any work on it at a main dealer, they would have plugged it in at some point (see how technical I am?) so might/should have record of other places that have plugged it in (there's the technical element again).......

Good luck anyway! If you can get a full, stamped service history, it could add a considerable value to the car!

Firstly its worth clarifyiung a few things.

1) any BMW dealer can print out the full warranty history from just the cars VIN
2) but a dealer can only "see" (and print out) service work carried out at their franchises (ie williams dealers can see service work carried out at any williams franchise only).

So ask your local dealer to run a warranty history report. They may not like doing this and you will have to talk them into doing it ;-) It is a very detailed report. You can then assume that whichever franchise carried out warranty work was also likely to have carried out servicing (ie you can narrow it down) and you can contact them re service history.

This of course will not help you with indy services. You can go onto the MOT database and using your V5 print out full history of the MOT carried out on your car. You can then phone the MOT
stations and ask who the local indy's are and see if they serviced the car etc....

ps BMW GB used to run a premium rate number were you could get a full service history for your car across all of their dealership network but I'm not sure if they still do this

Requires some phoning around but its amazing what history you can piece together ;-)
