Engine warning light -Galaxy 2.3 16v
Discussion
Bit of a problem with this light on my 2001 model. It came on on the way home from work Wednesday. Checked oil, water etc -no issues. No enine/gearbox noises, car drives perfectly well but got the mechanic near work to check diagnostics yesterday & ID'd fault as 'gearbox speed' sensor ? So he cleared the fault & it was fine on return journey. Then about halfway (6 miles) to work today came on again as I overtook somebody in 3rd gear. It's a constant (not flashing) light.
Would you say a faulty sensor issue. What does 'gearbox speed' sensor do anyway?
(yeh Ok measures gearbox speed-thank you

Gearbox speed sensor tells the ecu how fast your going, it fits in with the speedo drive & is fairly easy to change, the reason the abs light has come on is because the ecu no longer knows how fast you are going & it needs this input to work out weather the Abs is needed or not so it has shut the system down. It doesnt point to any major fault with the gearbox itself.
