What sort of thing do people recommend?

I'm thinking, in the new place, of going the apple Airplay route, what with being apple based already, but I see that there are other solutions.

One, of course, is iPod docks, or individual stereos with CD players and radios, but What other solutions work well? I want decent high quality stereo, which means some chunky file sizes, and I don't want a wired solution, it has to be separate things, or wireless.

Sonos or Squeezebox would work well, higher up the performance range here is Naim uniti and Unitiqute that I use, others are around but none as popular as Sonos & Sqeezebox

I can recommend Sonus, the S5 speaker they do is very good. You will need broadband at a reasonable speed for it to work well.

These two, I'm a fan of Squeezebox. Couldn't see what extras Sonos gave me for the inflated price over SB except an apparently slightly easier set up (wasn't bothered I'm quite technical and enjoy fiddling). They both will support lossless codecs and do multi-room.

I bouught the Sonos becuase at the time it had a much better GUI for the remote - not sure if that is still the case

There's an excellent free Iphone / ipod touch controller app available for Sonos. I find that I use this app a lot in preference to the CR100 controller.

What makes Sonos stand out for me is the fantastic technical support. The couple of times that I've used it in the five years or so that I've been a user (neither was a problem with the Sonos itself, which has been flawless), I've got straight through to a real person who has diagnosed the problem correctly straight away.

No experience of Squeezebox - maybe someone can comment on their after sales service / support?

I don't have a dedicated remote for SB. I was using something called ipeng on the iphone which worked well (but could have been a bit more intuitive). In the kitchen I use the SB radio which has on face controls which I use and in the lounge I use the SB touch which is a touch screen but I generally control that using my Harmony One which works well.

I've never had a problem that needed technical support or CS so can't comment on how well they service their customers in that respect.

I've also never needed tech support for my Squeezeboxes. I control them with either my laptop, iPeng on my iPhone or using a Pronto remote. All work fine.

But none are quite as slick an interface as the Sonos setup.

To me that's not worth the premium, though.

I also have a Squeezebox Boom, which is a pretty decent bit of kit for the cash.

Have been looking to add an S5 to my existing Sonos gear. Is here a preferred UK agent these days? The last lot I bought was back in 2006.

Happy to sort one out for you, badders.

Could do with talking to you about CCTV for a client as well.

You in the office tomorrow and I'll call you.

In and out of meetings all day today. Best bet is to call the sales dept, and say I've asked you to call them. They will help you spec up what you are looking for, allowing me to get back onto it as soon as I can. I will set an alert on the system, so that anyone who picks up knows to expect your call..

Edited to add that we are a trade only supplier - but if there's a clash, we can still help you spec something, and point you in the right direction..

For anyone reading this thread, with an interest in Sonos gear, I would just like to add a few thoughts about PH member VEX.

Having contacted me seperately on an unrelated matter, VEX has followed this with good advice and very good pricing on Sonos gear. So good, in fact, that I took the plunge and ordered some more from him - a couple of S5 units in this instance.

Good speedy communication all the way through - I would recommend him to any PH'er looking at buying Sonos equipment.

I've read and acted on recommendations on PH before, and never been let down - so it makes a nice change being able to do the same for others reading. Always good, I believe, to give another PH member a pat on the back publicly, for great service and support.

Cheers Bradders.
