Hi all. In their infinite wisdom somebody decided that they would dispose of both sets of spare keys for my 01 S60 (no, it wasn't me...). Anyhow, I now need a set of keys and remote for the car just in case the only set I have go missing...

Have just been quoted a minimum of £360 by Lipscomb Volvo, Maidstone. I was wondering if anybody out there knows of any indies that can replace Volvo keys.

Cheers
Jimbob

Just had similiar quote for my Land Rover keys, seems the fobs need to be coded to the car so add in minimum 1hr dealer labour rate.

Just stinks of being a nice money making scam for the dealerships. There is absolutely no way on earth, taking into account ALL the time the dealers would need to do this, and the materials, that the job costs that much to do.

It costs less for most garages to do a clutch or a cam belt FFS.

My Insignia cost £60+VAT for the key and £46 (30 mins labour) to re-program the key.

I asked taggarts volvo yesterday about the cost of a spare key for my S80. 1/2 hour labour + £150 for the key.

I think that Timpsons or similar should be able to cut a generic key and then "clone" your immobiliser transponder for a fraction of that.
Don't think they'll be able to do anything about the alarm fob though...

I actually got a lot of quote prior to going ahead from local dealers. Will dig them out of my inbox and stick them up on here. If you shop around you can save money (or be ripped off slightly less I think)...

Apparently not according to a lot of the Volvo specfic forums I go on. What's more Volvo have you by the balls and directly control the supply of keys...

Good point... But in my current state of mind I stick with my original statement...
