Oil Temp Question

Needless to say, I am following the code of conduct with respect to the correct warm up procedure, i.e. not exceeding 2,500 revs until reaching 65 degrees. I actually try not to exceed 2,000 revs before reaching 60 degrees having read a fellow ph'ers post recently.

My question is in relation to later on in the journey, in particular, motorway driving.

On a couple of occasions now, I have found that when leaving North London it is inevitable that by the time you reach the M1, the car is sufficiently warmed up, however, in 5th gear doing 70mph, I find that over time the oil temp cools, and can settle at around 52/53 degrees.

Does this therefore mean that at that point in time I should not do over 2,500 revs or 65mph? And wait until the oil temp reaches 65 again before doing either of these? Or because the oil temp has previously been over 65 degrees, it is okay to do 70ish and over 2,500 revs?

I'd agree that not exceeding 2500 until oil at 60 degC is probably over cautious. But each to his own.
I also find the oil temp drops when on a motorway. My take is that by the time you've reached the faster roads, the oil has had a chance to get to a 'good' operating temp, and fully circulated around all moving parts...So, just drive normally.

Just dont drive it hard basicly no 1/4 mile style starts from cold and dont red line the thing. I just keep it below 4k until warm, although I have the advantage of getting through town to go to any driving roads

Cold air flow over the oil temp sensor vastly affects the reading, however, the actual oil flowing round the engine will still be up to temp - just look at how quickly the oil temp comes back up when you hit traffic or come to a stop.
For what its worth I belive 2-2500 rpm to 60deg is a little over cautious, I run 2500 max to 40deg and then 3500 max to 70deg, after that it's play time.
