I don't usually have a rant on here, but recently I've been finding myself in this situation quite frequently, and want to know what everyone else does on here..

Setting the scene - 30mph limit, general roads going out of town, I will usually be doing 35mph on the speedo, and satnav usually tells me thats about 31-32...Then someone who may have been behind for a few minutes previously feels the need to overtake. It always seems to be on the same roads as well.

I've never done this, unless someones clearly taking the piss and doing 10 in a 30, but I'd say thats safe enough providing there is enough room.

But, what I want to know is, what do you do in these situations? Do you floor it to prevent them overtaking, do you flick the indicator on to the right to make them think twice, or just let them go on past and leave them to it?

Just leave them and let them go past.

If you floor it you could leave them stuck on the wrong side of the road and cause an accident.

Let them get on with it, if they want to be a tt it's up to them. If it really is dangerous then I'd probably brake/slowup whilst they're doing the overtake to allow it to be done safely (for all parties who may be involved).

Accelerating to stop them is plain fking retarded.

I leave them to it.

It doesn't make me worried about the size of my willy if someone wants to drive a bit faster than me.

I can't believe you'd even consider any option other than the last one! Why would you deliberately create danger?

Leave them to it, no point obstructing them. If some wants to overtake me when I'm already doing the speed limit I would rather them get it over with sooner than later. If you try to keep them behind you or inform them of their error you might find they have a touch of the mental and retaliate.

Leave slowing down other drivers to the BiB. Your options 1 & 2 are extremely poor, stick to 3.

I Don't see the reason to rant really. If someone wants to overtake and they execute it safely then there's no problem. I'd just let them overtake, you're clearly content at driving at the speed you are so why speed up just because someone else is going faster than the limit?

why try to block them?

if they want to press on, pull in left and let them past - impeding them is sheer stupidity

Just leave them to it. Why do anything else?

Usually make sure I'm as far left as I reasonably can be and lift the throttle. It's what I'd want people to do for me, so it's how I should behave to them.

Why would either of these things even be an option?

Leave them to it unless you are a policeman! By flooring it you significantly increase the chances of an accident. What is it to you anyway? unless they are overtaking dangerously. Its not as if they will be slowing you down

I can't imagine why you wouldn't just let them past.

Options 1 and 2 are those of an idiot - I always wondered who the people were who do this.

If you would choose 1 or 2, I'd love to hear some good reasons why...

My mum put her foot down when I was in the car with her the other day and some boy racers where doing some less than perfect overtaking. I told her she was being fking childish and was as bad, if not worse than them.

I do usually let them pass and let them carry on and hopefully get done for speeding, but I was just curious as to what others would do, obviously everyone on here are safe drivers and want to stay out of trouble smile

That car overtaking you might be a Unmarked Police car.
