my 1993 series1 1.6 mx5's speakers have given up the ghost
i am looking for a basic replacement

what size speakers should i be looking for?

any advice re brands and prices (fitted)?

my local car stereo place has suggested
(1)ts-91711 at £45 fitted or
(2)rtc-653 at £55 fitted
has anyone got any experience of either of these

I fitted a pair of these:

They sound pretty good and fit the standard Mk1 doors without any messing about. Took about 20 mins per side.

I put some jvc ones in from mx5parts.co.uk and they do a fine job and easy to fit for a novice, just line the holes up and screw them in (once you've connected the wires of course...)

While you've got the door cards off line the doors with some dynamatt type stuff, makes a vast improvement in the Mk1

It provides a lining od sound insulation for the rear of the speakers and gets you much better bass performance from your speakers.

Do you just apply that to the door around where the speaker is fitted then? My bass does make the doors buzz quite a lot, so this should help out by the looks of things.
