very interesting looking premise. i spend a lot of time dealing with kids who don't know their dads. there's a massive knock on effect.

Scumbags, short and simple

As for the "Britain's most feckless father" -

8 kids from 8 different women, and when he does pay anything he pays £5 a week towards a child from benefits

These fkers need castrating, if not shooting

How can someone be that lacking in moral fibre that they can just abandon their child like that?

We can't have kids , so for me its all the more of a piss boiler

furious

It's an absolute disgrace. I couldn't imagine not seeing or providing for my 6-year old Son who lives with his Mum (my ex-wife). I helped bring him into this world and will never not be there for him at any time of his life. I've a responsibility to him and take this very seriously. One thing they're not reporting on this programme though is Fathers absent because the Mothers of their children have made life so difficult for them, it's 'easier' and less emotionally draining than being involved.

It can be a problem, depending on the individual/circumstances, but I agree that it can have a massive effect.

What I would find equally interesting however is the impact on absent fathers that still live in the same house. Sounds crazy but I know a lot of fathers that never see their children during the week and then play golf all weekend. That's not to excuse the real missing parents but I don't believe it's exclusive to the types of families on the programme.

fair point. had to ring a parent today to confirm their kid had left a full time course. he's not attended for 2 months. they knew nothing about it.

Yup

Chap I used to work with stayed down in Thames Valley all week for work then went home to the North for the weekend

Newborn kid, new wife (who was new to the country - Asian and was going to college to learn English)

Yet all we heard Monday was stories of him out with his mates to watch the big fight or just cruising about

+1

Same with me, my oldest is 9 years old, its been over 4 years since I moved out - I couldn't imagine not paying for his upkeep, and the thought of not seeing him on a weekend is pretty lousy.

The ex-wifes first husband left her *before* the birth of their second child, so he never even saw his dad. How any father can not want to see or be involved in their childs upbringing just beggars belief.

On the flip side, I remember a colleague years ago who was fighting like mad through the courts to get his son back. Despite the mother having had a history of abusing her other children, they still somehow sided with her.

The whole system is totally and utterly fked up beyond belief.

Men like you and I have no rights under the legal system - and people wonder why Fathers for Justice used to carry on like they did? I wish they had never disbanded to be honest.

Blame many of the mothers too, I guess that many do not even know who the father is.....

Yup. I do everything by the book, and I happen to get totally screwed.

I've heard of that .... my sister used to work at the CSA (not the most rewarding of jobs), and she remembers a few cases where the mother figured that the father was one of 5 possible blokes she was with on one night.
