We have a 3-4 year old Hotpoint Aquarius - bought for the capacity - but it's gradually been making small holes in t-shirts, and now it keeps erroring with "washing machine blocked"

We've checked the drain and it's fine, but the "filter" (or pre-pump chamber as they call it), we just can't open it to check it.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (more often it breaks than works, usually about 3/4 of the wya through a cycle).

Looking online it seems Miele offer a honeycomb drum which should stop snagging clothes but they're obviously expensive - in fact the only machines with the honeycomb drum and a delay start timer on them start at around £1k.

Question is - are they worth it? Are there other options? This machine hasn't lasted a long time at all frown

I had a built in Hotpoint - paid £700ish for it & it was a pile of crap.

Replaced with a Miele & very happy - just wish I'd bought decent from the start.

2 ways to buy a washing machine.

1) buy a miele
2) buy lots of £150 ones.

Cost wise is pretty even. You should get 3yrs out of each, and be able to buy about 4 to spend the same money as a miele.

Don't scare me! We have just been given an Aquarious as our old Hoover died. Not had much use but about 3 years old.

If its making holes in things have you checked the drum for anything sharp ie damage to drum or bra wires? Sounds like there is something sharp somewhere catching them. I have just discovered there is no user filter to clean, apparantly it does it itself, which is wrong to me, where do I get me money back out of?

I did some research on the holes thing, and apparently it's because where you have all the little holes in the drum to drain, now the "back" of the drum isn't smoothed off. So when it spins thin fabric squishes through the holes and snags.

I've reduced the spin speed from it's max (1600) down to 600 and we still get them frown

Miele have a honeycomb drum which is supposed to better.

It sounds like that's the way to go then - ouch better prep the wallet! And try to find out how to get my clothes out this friggin machine.

No filter, but a pre-pump chamber, but we can't pull it out to check it. It is also draining water from the drain tube into the garden (although the pump is labouring a bit) and still errors frown
