Pete Postlethwaite's Opinions.....
Discussion
Firstly, I must say that I loved his work and he will be sadly missed as an actor.
However, after watching 'A Tribute To...' the other night, I can't work out the conflict in his strong opinions about certain subjects.
A staunch Labour supporter, he hated what was 'done' to the miners by the government at the time (not the unions, you understand, it was all the government's fault), and was very emotional about the death of the mining industry.
However, he was also very passionate about 'climate change' and was seen publically berating (almost blackmailing) Ed Millipede about the opening of new coal-fired power stations.
Now forgive me if I'm missing something, but the product of the last twenty years or so of the British coal industry was 90% to feed coal-fired power stations. So, if by some stroke, perhaps the banning of cheap imported coal, the mining industry has survived, he would have wanted to kill it off later anyway, as coal-fired power was apparently killing the planet?
Now I know that it's not quite as simple as that - there are other factors involved - but nevertheless, the two 'strong opinions' don't seem to fit very well together.
Standing by to be educated, but much as I respected his work, he does seem to be a typical left-leaning, Tory hating because of something that happened thirty years ago, still working class, honest, despite the millions, loony.

Not sure why anyone would be interested in an actor's opinion of anything other than theatre or film.

To be fair, though, I didn't intend to speak ill of him, more to try and make some sense of the perceived inconsistencies in his opinions and beliefs.
I didn't think I was being very disrespectful, but apologies to anyone who might think I was.
