Crosslining Wallpaper.

Many moons ago I was shown how to crossline (stick the first layer of lining paper horizontally, the second vertically) which I put to good effect covering some rough old plaster. I'm about to do some papering and wondered if there would be any dis/advantages to hanging both layers vertically with the seams offset? It's the hall, stairs and landing so hanging paper horizontally across the top of the stairwell could be a bit of a faff.

We had the professionals in to do our hall and stairs and they crosslined it - I can't see a single join now it's painted and it looks great - much better than the lounge which my (very skilled) Dad did for us but as he's not a decorator I'll let him off :-)
