WHY HASN'T ANYBODY AT MINI FIGURED IT OUT YET? REPLY TO THE MESSAGE IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS AND HOW YOU WOULD SUGGEST THEY FIX IT.

ps, is it just that it's not very small so the name is now ridiculous?

They don't need to figure anything out, they have a growing selection of cars under a well known brand that hold their value and people keep buying them more so than many other small cars. What ever they are doing the cars are selling...

Though they are becoming a bit too big now the first rover/bmw concepts and production car was mini in line with other cars on the road and about right for todays roads. The newer minis just use the brand and some style lines because the mini is now a brand and not a descriptive word. Before it was Austin mini, layland mini, rover mini now the brand is mini and the model is cooper S hatch, clubman etc so they have changed that round so the flaw is not the mini name any more.

Hey Richard, just looking at your roof chop site, very interesting indeed. Do you think it would be possible to do something with a boxster, chopping down the windscreen to form more of a speedster?

Probably quite an easy job on a boxster as its a soft top however I am not sure there will be many people happy to chop on. The side glass would need to be plastic ECE R43 marked and the front is laminated so you can have that water jet cut. Be a big job but would look excellent. Sometimes I think I will never get the mini done one day a week but I will!

As for the Flaw I don't know, I love them and don't care what the flaw is... I hope this does not turn out to be a classic vs BIMI post

I suppose would be hard to maintain rigidity.

Do you know anyone who could do it?

I do know someone who will do it. Rigidity isn't really an issue its more the cost of parts. You will be looking at £1500 for glass alone, then another £1000 for the soft top maybe more and then the chop which is actually easy on a soft top and could be done in a couple of days. Chopping I find only a major issue when its a car with a full roof

I will get a contact sorted for you. I know he has done a 1 series already and he is a welder by trade.

Issue with chopping that car could be the height of the seats and the roll bars at the rear, what is the height above the seat / heat as that will be your guide of chop space. I will be lowering my seats to giving more head room back

ok - here goes - the main FLAW with the new mini is in the folding seats: MINI should have designed the seats similar to the Honda Jazz - When you open the tiny boot you have to lift larger items up onto the folded seats itstead of having the floor raised or even better the seats lower as there aren't too many MINI drivers out there that actually use the back seats other than throwing their shopping in it - cant wait for the new coupe in August!! Only 2 seats and a reasonable boot - horray!!!

Ps isofix in the back is useless as you practically break your back and shins trying to strap a toddler in the back - so it might as well be a 2 seater anyway!!

Glad you've got that one off your chest lol.

I guess it is a pain, but then I didn't buy a Mini for it's bootspace, I seldom use the boot or the rear seats!

This thread proves how far we have come with cars being made. 30 years ago, the obvious flaw with a car included, having a square steering wheel, suspension mounts rusting within 12 months, electrical problems causing burnt out fuse boxes etc.
Me thinks your seat problem needs to be made relative to 'real problems'

Simple solution is use the car as a weekend toy and have a big car for generally work horse. Have to say I have never noticed it and they made a solution for this which lifts the boot floor up so its the same level. Can't remember the part number but there is a solution of there for the so called flaw.
