Anyone here into Fly Fishing?
Discussion
Since i left the Marines ive had less and less time to follow my childhood passion of fly fishing, due to working 9 to 5 and weekend house duties. That and the south coast massive seem to be preoccupied with sea fishing. I used to get out on the water every weekend and when i was a lad i was up at 4am and cracking a couple of hours on the salmon river behind my house before school.
Is anyone here into fly fishing? Seems to be a bit of an elitist pastime in the south with only the odd pricey 'stock pond' and the expensive beats on the Avon. Ive fished Rockbourne afew times with good results but i think that my only option locally. Not cheap there either.
Anyone fancy a fishing partner or have any advice?

I love fly fishing. I tend to go to Chalk Springs in Arundel and Blackwool Farm near Petworth.
Ive been to Dever a couple of times too.
Depending on how much my Cerb costs me this week, i'd be up for a bit of fluff chucking in the near future.
Winner. Yeah, I'm up for a bit of that. Not sure if my kit would be suitable for chalk streams but I can make do for the time being. Wy weapon of choice is normally a 10ft Sage Blank with weight 8 or 9 line. I'm more used to reservoirs and salmon runs.Ive been to Dever a couple of times too.

Not chalk streams but Chalk Springs!
Its a stillwater venue. Some people love it, some hate it. There are a load of 2lb'ers in there but also some real bigguns. Lovely browns in season. http://www.chalksprings.com/

Fair one! Point made.
Done all types of fishing over the years, Coarse, Sea, Game including Salmon I do have a selection of rods to do all these days. Haven't been fly fishing for a few years now as I share a 20ft Hardy fishing boat and go out on that a couple of times a week in the warmer months. Don't do cold weather fishing of any description these days circulation won't take it.
Fished at Chalk Springs on many occasion and I suppose it's my local fishery, ideal gear would be 9-10ft, 6-7 weight and a range of lines.
The water is clear to very clear and stalking pays dividends on occasions. Price now there's the rub it ain't cheap as you will see from the link, but during the week it can be a bloody magic place to while away a few hours even if you don't fill your quota.
Often thought about doing some Bassing out of Chi harbour using the either my 15ft Sage double hander or just a 10 ft 7-8 weight, but when the weather is right it hard not to go out to sea. Plus my mate has only just nearly mastered a boat rod after 6 years so a fly rod would be
painful to say the least. So if you're out at Chalk Springs guys give me a shout even if I don't fish, I'll come over and say hello.

I used to do quite a lot of FW fly fishing.
Late last year I took up salt water FF

I'll bump that thread when the waters warm up a bit!
Took my rods to Portugal a couple of weeks ago, without success. I also aggravated my tennis elbow
so I shan't be going for a chuck till that's better.
Don't want to hijack the thread, but I have also just bought a beachcaster (did a bit as a yoof) so if anyone fancies joining me, south coast Southampton/Portsmouth area..........
