Hi just joined the forum - Anyone know why my rear brakes start to screech while driving, I can drive 50 miles or even just 10 and then they start, and then it goes again after 20 mile s or so or if I stop and then restart, and any advice on fixing problem would be really appreciated

Your handbrake cable has frozen. It will get better when it warms up. Solution get the cable replaced as it has filled with water.

It's probably something sticking in the caliper - cleaning everything off, making sure the slides are free to move & the pads can move freely, then lubricating as required, should cure it. The symptoms suggest a sticking pad; the pad rubs lightly against the disc, causing the screech - applying the brakes clamps it more firmly, stopping the vibrations you're hearing.

I suspect that once you have some heat in the caliper it's seizing on (not frozen!)...I've had problems with the sliders, they have a rubber "thing" around them which swells or somehow causes problems.

Other than that, just check the pads are able to move freely, mine have got some silly stainless steel inserts which needed slight alteration (bending!) to allow the pads to move.

Squeeky brakes are usually the sliders - easy fix, as wrinx says. Do this first before looking at the more expensive options.

And put a blob of copper ease on the back face of the pads as it helps.
