Hi guys...first post.Being in Oz we have the opportunity to utilise our local LS3 which is quite a bargain really.I'm a plumber not a mechanic so could some body fill me in on the diff (no pun) between U.S. chev and Oz as turning the intake manifold 180 degrees does'nt seem a biggy and the cost of ECU etc not all that prohibitive.I may be looking at this too simplistically (is that a word?)
Any thoughts

Turning the intake is a no-brainer, it`ll fit both ways. The trickier part is to get all the ancillaries (alternator, air cond. compressor, sensors, etc.) to the right position in order for the engine (and exhaust!) to fit the GTR chassis. You`ll also need a custom engine harness (sensors in different positions due to the intake) for the Ultima installation as well as a working ECU. There are many stand-alone solutions out there, but my advice would be to ask someone who`s already done these looms and to buy a plug-and-play package (e.g. Amerspeed, they supply all the parts needed to make the engine run) - not affiliated with them, just lessons learned (the hard way).

Hello,

I learned it too. My "plug and play LS2 motor" was a chaotic mixture from LS6 and LS2. Changed not working FBW throttle and ECU to a cable throttle with an other ECU and a complete new harness.
Programmed the new ECU (speed sensor, idling, alternator, climate compressor...).

thanx Sven..I'm not being a problem child ,but the, and I quote "The LS3 is built by General Motors Power Train in North America and is available in the current Chev Corvette" This means it should slip in no worries and there is only the (oil pressure?) sensor to worry about after the inlet manifold is changed. As for the ecm (ecu) the engines come with this and a loom and cats and exhaust manifold. I suppose the thing is that for 11 to 12k local money even the addition of a/c compressor and alternatorand of course an air filter, it still blows away an import engine. I have contacted our friends at American Speed and they were extremely helpful and very quick witha a quote but I feel there is basis for more research. We even have a guy over here who tunes your ecm to suit (U.S. or Oz unit) to suit local greasemonkeys...Of which I feel I will become one no doubt. Maybe if there is a local guy out there who has thought along the same lines??

Hi Scott being a local boy I'm not sure what your asking? An LS3 here is the same thing. Holden buy them from the US. The ECU's are the same as well. So go for gold using a LS1,2,3 or 7 found locally.
