In today's Metro. Radical thinking. I can't post link as it's on my phone. The article doesn't name which committee is proposing this.

Article said:
Strict energy rationing should be introduced to cut greenhouse gasses, MPs have proposed. Adults should be given equal free quotas - not necessarily enough to meet their needs - to be traded in when they buy gas and electricity for their homes and fuel for their cars.

They would then have to buy extra 'credits' to make up any shortfall making them think hard abouttheir energy use, the committee recommended.

Businesses and government would have to buy units at regular auctions.
edit: spooling.

I think Germany are planning the same - no doubt this is some kind of (until now) hidden EU directive....

Ah, but that isn't fair is it - because that is distributing access to resources in proportion to wealth, when clearly what needs to happen is that property energy needs to be shared equally. Comrade.

Exactly, it strikes me as just more EU interference that will have a limited effect on the majority of people.

Nope 'Metro page6'

'Proposed' by Mp's/Troughers rolleyes and 'recommended' by he committee as a measure to reduce greenhouse gasses.

More likely they have censored up big time on estimating our future energy needs and haven't got the 'capacity' to supply and will use this as a form of rationing.

I am constantly amazed at the ingenuity used to 'foist' and 'raise' more tax revenue. If a 10th of the effort was put into how to do things more efficiently the majority of these rises could probably be binned redface

I don't see the chinese or many other 'emerging/catch up' economies worrying too much about greenhouse gasses yet ?

It's from the Parliamentary Committee on Peak Oil. The members are:

John Hemming MP (Chair) (Liberal Democrat)
Caroline Lucas MP (Vice Chair) (Green)
Mark Williams MP (Treasurer) (Liberal Democrat)
Stephen Williams MP (Secretary) (Liberal Democrat)
Simon Wright MP (Liberal Democrat)
Lorely Burt MP (Liberal Democrat)
Tom Brake MP (Liberal Democrat)
Andrew George MP (Liberal Democrat)
Lord Teverson (Liberal Democrat)
Austin Mitchell MP (Labour)
Michael Meacher MP (Labour)
Kelvin Hopkins MP (Labour)
Steve McCabe MP (Labour)
George Mudie MP (Labour)
Dr Alan Whitehead MP (Labour)
Frank Doran MP (Labour)
Gisela Stuart MP (Labour)
Iain Wright MP (Labour)
Dan Byles MP (Conservative)
Bill Wiggin MP (Conservative)

So hardly surprising that it comes up with a left wing solution.

No it isn't. It's the kind of thing that was going to happen whoever won the election because all the parties in Westminster la-la land are completely sold on the global warming nonsense. It would take a massive negative vote against it for them to even notice.

Simple answer build some more Nuclear power stations zero emissions and a hell of a lot safer than Chernobyl's design and not run by drunk Russians who decided to try a risk experiment with a large live nuclear reactor.

Government decides they want policy A.

Government makes proposal that is an extreme version of policy A called policy A2.

People don't like policy A2.

Government "compromises" by cutting out all of policy A2's extreme bits until it matches policy A.

Everybody acts like they've won something.

Energy Quotas will be replaced by more fuel tax, everyone will say this is "fair"
