Folks

I have a 1998 355 Spider and have a couple of questions that I hope some one can help me with as I'm stuck for sound advice from experts.

The first is I cant find the flipin car battery, it has one as all the electrics work but do you think I can put my hands on the dammed thing, any idea ?

Secondly one of my remote fob keys doesn’t work, I've spoke to a major independent who says that the red remote is needed to re program the in car electronics so that a a replacement remote fob can be added, the only problem is that the red remote is also not working either. The fob batteries have been replaced in all items but unfortunately with no success. The main dealer has said that under these circumstances the in car electronics need to be replaced together with all the fobs at a cost of circa £1000 which is a lot to get an additional remote.

Does anyone know of someone that might be able to repair the red remote or have an alternative clever fix without the need for a non standard part as I'm not keen on this as the car is in spiffing original condition and I would like to keep it all OEM.

Cheers

Chris

carnut1960 : mine is a 1994 355 gtb (one of the 7 of the first batch of 355's maranello imported after their demo car EHF1 ), and so might be different from yours in some respects

anyway, the car battery in my case is in a compartment directly in front of the driver's side front wheel arch

i also had the same problem in that one of the fobs stopped working
i managed to get a replacement fob off e-bay (look under car remote fob , and check the photographs to find the same as your non-working fob), and then took both the working fob as well as the recently purchased e-bay fob to a company in epsom, who managed to reprogram the new fob using the info from the original fob

if you can find another fob, get in touch again and i'll rummage through all my records and get the address of the company that did the reprogramming

i also wanted an additional immobiliser fob , and my local main dealer was able to organise this (although the security hoops that you had to jump through first to establish that you were indeed the owner was extensive ---actually quite reassuring that )

Thanks for the advice, I've had a look in the manual and it refers to a compartment in the luggage storage area, I assume this means the front compartment under the bonnet but I can find the access hatch they refer to, is your accessible form the wheel side or from within the front boot ?

from what i understand, you have to remove the front wheel to access the door behind which is the battery compartment !!!

after 5 years ownership, i still have not set eyes on my car battery

Yep, the battery is in the fking stupid location of the front wheel arch. You can just about get to the terminals by putting full lock on, but to get it out it's a wheel off job... Italians.

Check with Maranello Service in Egham, IIRC a new set of fobs (inc red) and reprogram is around £280 plus VAT

I have the same problem with my 360 - only one black remote supplied with the car. I have purchased a second hand fob from eBay but have no idea where to send it to get it cloned. There is a guy on FerrariChat who will do it but this means sending my only remote to the USA and hoping it doesn't get lost in transit. If there is somewhere in the UK I'm happy to drive there and have it done so the details of the company you used in Epsom it would be appreciated. smile

Verdi will re-program the fob for you for a fee providing you have the alarm pin. If you need the pin then Mandy at Maranello can help but you need to provide proof of ownership and ID.
