I wouldn't buy online. Most, if not all, of the newer boots have an inner that's moulded to your foot. You'll also find that your foot will fit some manufacturers better than others so you need to try a wide variety, Get it wrong and your feet will suffer.

I echo what ^^^^^ has said.

Go to a decent bootfitter, book an appointment first and expect to be there a couple of hours.

Ditto above. Get them fitted properly, with a moulded foot bed.

Definitely get them fitted in a shop. I tried on dozens of pairs, and some of them hurt the second I put them on. If you can get to Milton Keynes the shop next to the snow dome have a wide selection, and do discount some boots.

The only way I would buy online is if I had tried the boots on in a shop and needed to get them cheaper. This, however, is a bit of a c***'s trick, as the shop will probably spend over an hour with you trying different boots.

What they all said!

Ideally go to a specialist for a fitting and moulding. You'll keep the boots for years and years if you get a good set and they fit you right.

Otherwise you may as well hire a bad fitting pair than own one.

If you live in London or anywhere near it you can't do better than these guys http://www.profeet.co.uk/

No shiny ski boots on the wall....they do a lot of analysis of your feet, put you on a ski simulator, ask you what kind of skiing you do and then bring out the relevant types of boot.

Ankle flex is really important so make sure the boots let you get good flex...some makes are absolutely shocking.

Good man...I had two pairs of boots before I got mine from Profeet. The second pair were done by a similar outfit but I had no end of problems....they were literally adjusted 15 times but still gave me pain. My boots that I got from Profeet have been brilliant since day 1...I can leave them on all day never have to undo the buckles at lunch etc.

Strolz

All you need to know.

If you can find them outside Austria.

Not cheap but last longer than anything else I have tried to wreck!

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but if you're renting skis then you may as well rent the boots as well, they're so much better than they used to be and you can swap them if you find your feet have changed. I owned boots for years but when I decided to rent at the resort, I was quickly converted.
