Fake Ferrari any one?
Discussion
When looking in the classifieds under kit cars i found a real gem, a replica 430 Spyder for £32k!!!
You can get a 360 Spyder for under £40k. Which asks the question....would any body buy the fake and why?
Almost as good as the fantasy garage of one of the p h'rs i looked at that had a GT40 kit car in it?!?

Not all manufacturers have been as obliging as Porsche in making a copy of their classic 911 into an affordable 912. Running costs are the reason, I would imagine.
Rarity would also be an incentive for me to drive a copy.
A GT40 kit can be a lot of fun with no worries. I guess if I was a mutli billionaire, I could stuff a real GT40 and not worry but even if I was a millionaire, I'd probably choose a copy.
But replicas have become unbelievable in value. For the price of a good Cobra, 356, GT40 replica you can buy a genuine classic but hang on - the copies have become classics in their own right (almost).
I can remember when £25K would buy you a C Type replica - triple that now. A Bugatti copy - yours in the classifieds for £60K and that uses Marina torsion bar suspension!! A Porsche 550 Spyder with a plastic body and Skoda Estelle mechanics - for a lot of money.
A 430 replica sounds tacky and it may well be but it will have cost a lot of money to build a half decent one yet the running costs will be low. Then there is rust. Would you want to run say a real 356 on UK roads getting covered in salt?
Then there is the justification when the replica is better than the original. I remember Setright talking about the BRA V8 Cobra in the 80s. He claimed it had all the charms of an origial AC, the driving pleasure, the same aural and visual delights but in fact better. Better handling, stiffer chassis and cheaper.
