Having just bought myself a lovely Panasonic plasma, my thoughts now turn to audio.
Currently I have a fairly low spec technics separates hifi combined with some b and w 602 speakers.
Would ideally like to keep the speakers, and to further complicate things I have little room behind the sofa and no real scope to move it forwards. Am I best trying to get some flat speakers for on the wall, or some small ones like the Anthony gallo speakers? Other thinking is the room is pretty much a rectangle so would a soundbar work, accepting that it would be a compromise?

Next point would be the amp. I have a demon 2800 mk2 dvd player which plays cds but no longer dvds and have been told that its a better cd player than my technics one, is this correct? Would a demon amp be the best to pair it with, the only problem I can find is there doesn't seem to be many available amps which have inputs for cd, radio, and record player inputs.

Last question, would I be able to use the 602 as front available speakers in a 5.1 set up but split them at the press of a button to provide stereo sound for music?

Sorry for the long post and all the questions, but Thankyou for taking the time to read and have a good day.

On the front cover of this month's What Hi-Fi sound and vision there's something from Yamaha that looks like a sound bar but projects sound like a surround system. I only glanced at the magazine but it got a good review.

You'll need a dedicated receiver that can pass through all your AV if you want proper 5.1.

Something like this:

http://denon.co.uk/uk/product/pages/Product-Detail...

You feed all your AV equipment: CD, Satellite, DVD, BlueRay, XBOX, turntable etc through it and then output to your TV and your speakers. The receiver does all the work to process the audio and video signals and will provide you with 5.1 or even 7.1 surround. You can use just with 2 speakers in stereo at first and then upgrade to more speakers later.

It'll come with a built in tuner too.

Lots of similar products from other companies ranging from cheap and cheerful to very expensive.

Note, not sure if that particualr model has a dedicated phono input, I'm sure that there are other models available that will though
