College course for an employee

We have a new lad starting in a few weeks and he was interested in spending one day a week at college, to better his electronics knowledge. Something like a BTEC. Unfortunately none of the local colleges appear to offer anything suitable. He already has a BSc in Sound Recording and Performance Engineering, so needs something reasonably advanced.

Any one done something similar or know of a college that runs a specific electronics (not electrical) course? The company is in South Lakes and the lad lives near Carnforth.

Would a viable alternative be Open University course and give them one day off a week? The HNC day release course I was been exposed to started with from the most basic level and included people on the course who know absolutely nothing about the topic.
