A compact Nikon

Afternoon,

I've just had a quick look in Jessops and saw they have the Nikon S5100 compact on offer at £119. Very tempted to get one as my 9 year old Sony Cybershot is way past its' sellby date. Is this a good camera for the money, or should I be looking at an alternative? I want it mainly as a quick 'point and shoot' while on holiday.

The Nikon should be fine. Other options you could consider in the same kind of price range are

GBP 115 Olympus

GBP 127 Panasonic Lumix

GBP 129 Canon

GBP 132 Panasonic Lumix


Overall it's a balancing equation of zoom / size so smaller and sleaker will have less zoom. Don;t get carried away by the numer of Megapixels, often a higher number does not give better quality on these tiny sensors.

Balance the camera size / zoom requriement in your own mind as the first thing
