Hi,

we'd like to rent a cottage in the UK this summer and would prefer something less chintzy than Hyacinth Bucket's wet dream. Sadly, it appears this is the sort of thing the market wants to offer. Can anyone point us in the direction of a modernist contemporary cottage? Where's Norman Foster when you need him?

The interweb and google seem to lead to disappointment.

Suffolk/Norfolk or the SW preferred but we'll travel. And of course we're looking for the moon on a stick for discount prices.

All help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends how many people the place has to sleep.

There's a few on this website that look quite contemporary, starting with the first one listed.

A teensy bit far, but thanks for the suggestion. (Google suggests New Zealand has lots of places, btw)

Excellent link, thanks very much indeed.

There are just two of us which is both a good thing and a bad thing. Looking through loads of generic websites to find a more contemporary cottage is a bit hit and miss (mostly miss) and it seems most of the "good" ones sleep 6, 7, 10+ which makes them too pricey.

Yep, that has some "wow" to it. At 5 bedrooms and £2200 pw it's probably counted itself out, though.

Keep them coming, mind. This day dreaming lark is keeping my college work merrily to one side.

If you want N Devon, I sometimes stay at the Old Rectory in Martinhoe, which is fantastic. They have a couple of cottages next door, which have always looked quite nice.
