How they deal with benefit cheats in Los Angeles

In a nutshell, they have a scheme where tenant on low income pays only 30% of the rent - the govt picks up the rest.
BuT when the tenant signs up they have to sign a doc stating they have no criminal record, other income, not going to allow other to move in etc.
The authorities are cracking down and prosecuting the cheats for both fraud and for perjury.
Why can't they do that here with the benefit cheating scum?

Sounds great in theory but what are we to do with those that are evicted?
(before you say it shooting them will not be an option)
Nothing would be the best option!! let them take some responsability for their own actions for once(before you say it shooting them will not be an option)
picking the feckless up from their stupidity all the time helps no one....

Convicted of fraud I suspect some jail time ( yes I am aware it is more expensive than housing benefit).(before you say it shooting them will not be an option)
Then out to live a s
tty hand to mouth existence where they may need to actually do a low paying job, pay some rent for a bed sit, give up sky movies and Nike trainers for a while. That sort of thing.

Sounds great in theory but these are not the type of people who will actually think on how they can improve their situation. It is a lot easier for them to think that 'they are owed' something and 'its society's fault'.picking the feckless up from their stupidity all the time helps no one....
The end result will no doubt be more crime and s
t people hanging around somewhere. I don't know what the solution to these sort of people is but either way when they get pissed off the decent part of society somehow always end up paying for it.Sheeda Pistol said:

You've got to be a complete moron to mess around whilst on HUD.
Essentially, there are quite a few restrictions, for instance if you smash up a HUD house before you leave or whilst you are a tenant, you are thrown out of the scheme and evicted if you are still in the property. You are then on your own, and HUD will never ever be granted to you again. It really is a lifetime ban.
The end result is that very few HUD registered properties ever get damaged. If you do manage to get banned from HUD, you only have yourself to blame as you live in a box under a fly over.
Quite a few restrictions exist for other housing things.
For instance, if you get given a trailer on a FEMA park after a disaster, you are not allowed weapons in the complex (especially guns), legal weapons or not. If you are found with a gun in your trailer or on your person whilst you are in the park, you get evicted there and then. No second chances as there is another person who wants your trailer and will behave.
I believe there is a council run estate near us, and again, there is a no guns policy in effect. But that lot are so untrustworthy that they station a cop on the entrance to the estate 24/7. When things get rough, they will even have a gate register and only tenants are allowed into the site.
But again, the tenants know the rules and mostly stick to them.

That would never work in UK
I think it would work, but it would take a few years for people to realise they have to behave. That would never work in UK
How long before we have modern day workhouses for the feckless. You get a bed to sleep in at night and 3 meals a day but you have to do something to earn it. If you want cash on top, then overtime is available.

Not soon enough, I personally have no idea why we should support those who cannot be bothered.Reading a bit more about this case, it looks like a couple of things have happened.
The landlords aren't taking an active interest in their properties for a start, and no one has enforced any rules. Hence it's got worse and worse, until the council are forced to crack down on the whole area.
I've also seen a US drug party in a projects (hell, we even got offered drugs lol), and it totally trashes an area (regardless of how happy (high) the drug dealers are).
