ah yes... the sweet sweet smell of money burning a hole in one's pocket. many apologies to bob for cutting short our phone call when the buyer (or should I say victim ) turned up but now I have a wedge of cash and a sports car desire that cannot be quenched! the received wisdom at the moment is edging toward an elise on the basis that if I bought a tivver although I yearn for an elise as well, I could never "downgrade" if that really is the appropriate phrase to an elise so may as well have the elise for a year then go griffwards - any opinions people? this is an important decision!

If you yearn for the TVR, buy it now. You don't know what the future has in store so take the opportunity now.

there is a part of me that does feel that wouldn't it be great to have an elise, but I know I can get a griff so why wait? oh the agony of choice!

It is well known that TVR spoils you for every other car. If you buy a good one and it treats you well then there is no possibility of leaving the fold. As byff says, you don't know what the future holds. If you want to own a tiv and you can do it now then what are you waiting for. If it's the experience of Elise that you're looking for then book yourself on an Elise experience. IMO Elise is for the track, TVR is for the road.

Given the choice for me it would be TVR all the way, okay you have to deal with the problems of owning an older car... but if it's well cared for then that'll be no worse than an elise, bought by some yuppie and thrashed until it expires.

That plate works well too. camshaft at 40k is a common one and with this car the job's already done. Griffs are normally 30-40% more than Chims. Market driven, there's fewer of them. This one is priced to sell so if you want it you'll have to do it quickly.

No comments from Wendy?
If the TVR is what you want in the long term, it's worth getting what you want when you can get it, rather than an interim car.
V8....
You know you want it....

You need to drive both, then get the one you like best.

My guess is that you'll go for the griff, but it costs you nothing to try the elise too. Specially if you have a wad of cash in your back pocket. If you get an elise when you really want a griff all you will do is spoil your enjoyment of the elise.

And remember:

Don't buy the first one you drive like the rest of us did.

btw, that westfield went quick - did you already have a buyer lined up?

You should know better than to ask 'Elise V Griff' on PH. The outcome of such a debate is a forgone conclusion.

I would say Griff.

Why did you sell the Westie Tom? Are you still coming karting?

Minimax - I can see you are aiming towards a grif but if you fancy a particularly nice X reg Elise (16500 miles) let me know as I'm about to part with mine.

Cheers

I assume you got the job then (sorry, I haven't been following recent postings due to baby trauma - he's fine, we're shattered).
The character of the two cars is so different..the Elise is sweet-steering, balanced, responsive, whereas the Griff is titanium-plated-testicles entertainment!!!

While I would sing the Elsie's praises from the highest heavens, I think the Lotus has little to teach you. Forget charm, a degree of reliability, breeding, poise, and a history of engineering excellence.. buy the TVR.
