Powder coaters & waxoyl
Discussion
Sorry rather pointless post but I’m excited & no one in work wanted to hear about it...
I just dropped in to the powder coaters so see how he was getting on, the chassis & other bits were fully blasted & in etch primer, looking very nice
But I forgot my phone so couldn’t take any pics.
The only slight problem he’s had was from the cavity wax. I had sprayed loads of waxoyl into the box section lower chassis rails years ago.
(They kept filling up with water, on close inspection with the body off I found the two captive nuts, for the bolts that are behind the rad, had a small gap a the side of them. So when the car was left facing up the slope of the drive the small pond that develops in the nose of the car managed to drain back into the chassis. Injecting the waxoyl filled the holes so protected the chassis & stopped the water getting in, I’ve now welded the holes up for good measure)
So we were worried that this would melt in oven & leak out of all the rivet holes for the tunnel cover. To test it out he suck it in the oven after the etch but before the powder to see if any thing came out. The old waxoyl was fine, I think the exhaust has cooked it over the years. But one of the other chassis tubes I’d repaired I sprayed cavity wax into had leaked. When I did it I welded up the holes I’d sprayed it in through as they should be sealed & I was confidant my welding was good, but typically the wax found a tiny hole in one of the factory welds & made a good mess over the section of chassis below. Still that was the point of the exercise, hopefully all the excess wax has drained out now, but just in case he is going to put something in place to catch it if it leaks again so the powder won’t be too badly affected. He is doing two coats of powder in two separate bakes so any mishaps can be corrected in the second coat he says.

Blimey, what sort of plebs do you work with who aren't interested in that! Glad to hear it's all going well and look forward to seeing the finished photos. Another Cerb saved for the future!
Thanks James I know, half of them haven’t even got driving licences, soft Londoners...
I see from one of your other posts you’ve got your Integra going well, hope your re-built engine is fun

Assuming you’re all finished with that are you planning on staring the body off on the Cerb any time soon?
The Integra is fine, run in now and good fun for a little 'un. It's too late in the winter for me to look at a body off on the Cerb now though. I had a good poke around underneath last week though and it looks very sound still so I have disked off the outriggers and treated them to some POR-15. In honesty, I can't say it needs doing, I'm just a bit OSD. Perhaps there's time for a respray before the spring though...

Ah so you resisted doing a partial lift to paint the out riggers then, very wise I must be a bit OCD too or my part lift wouldn’t have turned into a full re-build, sure you would have been the same
Good to keep it on the road I’m missing have the Cerb out, this is my favourite time of the year, no salt but still nice & slippery
