Withnail and I....... am I missing something?

Just about to record this only sky+, tried to watch it a couple of years ago after it was rated as one of the best British Movies of all time, but I just did not get it and gave up about half way through. Decided to have another crack at it... was I missing something before?

If you're over 30 and trying to watch it for the first time then you're wasting your time. If you're under 30 and don't rate it, then I presume you are an Accountant or Actuary or Librarian, or some other dull occupation.

I've heard tell where you cannot match drink for drink and that those that try end up in a vomiting/catatonic state and wish that they had never been born and/or tried to drink that much!

Don't think he's allergic, just teatotal. Not even certain he drank in the film, prior to filming he went out and got wasted with Bruce Robinson and the rest of teh cast though.
The lighter fluid was vinegar...the reaction and being sick was very real.
