excessive vibrations
Discussion
you MAY have the suspension settings slightly out - I had the same thing on my 996 - car didnt feel at all stable at warp speed - full suspension geometry check completely cured the problem (was out by quite some margin). have a feeling the oil consumption isn't connected to the problem.
High speed problems like this are a tough one for uk dealers to fix.other than the advice you have already had about Tyres and alinement etc there are a couple of points I would make try it on a non uk road you may well find that it is the road not the car 996'at that speed dont like road expantion joints(So I am told) does the vibration continue above this speed?
The 996 has a couple of other'Features' I have yet to travel in one that does not blow the seals of the side windows at above 155 and they positively whissle at 170 plus no matter how the OPC adjusts them.
Regarding oil the 996 uses more oil when new up to a litre per 1000 miles.
Have fun keep enjoying the car if the tyres/alinement dont fix the vibration try a trip through the tunnel and see if I was right if Im wrong you have had a nice run out
