Microsoft's SUI
MS launch speech recognition things - forget the boring applications, let's have something we can shout at!
Discussion
And I'm sure that like most MS products on the market it will have been through a rigorous process of acceptance testing and will run as sweet as on any hardware. As if.
Still, without trying to be cynical, that's the number of MS products that are car friendly can be counted on the fingers of er, a mitten.

The iffy Merc EBA technology could probably use some of this to make their system work. Any system that telepathically decides whether you you want to brake or OH-MY-GOD slam the anchors on, is just looking for trouble.
This proposed voice command system could be used to vary the level of brake assistance according to preset expletives to be screamed by the driver.
When the system gets it wrong (it will, it's Microsoft based), again by monitoring expletives, the system can decide that perhaps you weren't wanting help with your driving; and turn the EBA system off......

Slightly off topic, but I am mad as hell at f
g Microsoft. I have just taken delivery of my new laptop which has XP Home on it (laptop not available with XP Pro) and you cannot connect directly to a network! All previous versions of MS Windoows could connect to a network. I now cannot use the laptop for work until I have bought a copy of XP Pro, having already paid for XP Home in the price.
The new SUI will probably only work in cars made by certain companies!

I was in the reastaurant at Microsoft in Reading with our account manager.
There was a massive clatter of breaking crockery in the kitchen area.
I piped up, "Fcukin 'ell - even the kitchen crashes here!"
It all went quiet.. lol![]()
Brilliant

Anyway, I was talking to a guy quite high up the IT ladder at Preswick airport a couple of months back and he told me that at the end of 2003 (as in, 20 months time) Microsoft will not longer provide support for any O/S other than XP! This from the company who over the last three years have launched Windows 2000, 2000 Server, Advanced Server and ME! From what I gather there will be pervious owner upgrade, so If a company spent £20,000 upgrading from NT to 2000 tomorrow, they will have to spend the same in 6 months time going from 2000 to XP! Its the biggest scam ever and no one can do a thing about it! MS have the market against a wall, and intend to take everything they can get!
Then of course there is this thing on XP where you have to register on line!! Erm.. no thanks Bill, watch someone else! Once you have regiustered on line, MS can access everything on your computer (I have only been told this, it's believable, but only been told) from software numbers (to prevent piracy) to documents! Everything! If you want what I was told, I will e-mail it to you!
And then there is the bit that makes me really

The SQA (Scottish Exam Board) sent out the Sylabus to my college for the XP in my course!! From what the head of course told me, the last 2 years of my life have a waste of time!! I'm 5 weeks from finishing my course, and what I have been trained in, means nowt! XP is apparently comletely different, and with everyone changing to XP, without any experience I am unlikely to get a Job in IT for a few years!
Like I said, the biggest scam ever!
Big Bill is Watching You!

I thought XP Home had networking built right in. I had a bit of trouble getting a mate's one to work..but that was because NetBEUI isn't installed as standard (relies on you using TCP/IP). What sort of network are you trying to join? I'm pretty sure XP Home will connect to a peer-to-peer Workgroup and an NT Domain if you want it to?

Err, no! XP Home only allows you to access a 'proper' network by phone line, there is no possibility to set domains and all the other network information. You can use it to set up a home network, ie. linking several PCs/laptops together using a piece of cable and hub. Apparently this is MS following its 'diverge and conquer' policy of separating home and office use. I will now have to fork out £160 to upgrade the OS to XP Pro....rip off springs to mind. I don't mind reasonable pricing but when a company has grown and makes its original entrepreneur the wealthiest man in the world by a margin of about 400% it just proves to me it is over-charging through having a monopoly.
[OT] Look at Apple Macs... I've always used Macs and am using a loverly silver/graphite G4 to type this on. Twice a fast as the fastest Pentium (not an opinion, a fact let me know if you need proof !) No limitations on versions of OS (ie. home edition, pro edition etc.) 1 OS for home, office or wherever, almost virus free and likely to stay that way 'coz of the sensible system core, rock solid stability (system core again)
stunning looks (see the new iMac), totally user friendly, every single file on the computer has a name/icon that tells you what it's for etc. MS Office (Bleeugh) for the Mac can work with All office docs from PCs and if you really feel the need, you can hook up Macs to PC LANs. The old problem with the lack of available software is also coming to an end. Mac OSX is based on UNIX, developers love UNIX and there's tons of of stuff being released every day.

Umh, and then the display will visualize:
Fatal error in 5C|2E\/\/ED module. The guy
that drives me around is total numpty.
System halted, if you want to wait hope that
lorry isn't behind you, if you want to reset,
exit, open and close all doors in contemporary.
If you are alone, then Gates is d*****d
Thanks
