Apologies for the double post, but I had a power run at Austec at the weekend as part of my service and the figures for my S2 were as follows:

174.3 BHP
201.2 lb ft torque

well chuffed with those!

The torque figure particularly seems high compared to the quoted figure (170 IIRC) - are there any tell tale signs to see if there have been any modifications made to the motor prior to my ownership? Or do these motors just vary that much?

There certainly seems to be a lot of variation about, but those figures are great for an S2. Podie's only getting that after chipping on an S3C. Would be interesting to see what you would get after the same treatment Tim.

Those figures seem pretty close to others I have seen on and S3... and I don't think Slamm's S3 was too far behind that either.

I'd certainly be interested to see the graphs and compare the power and torque curves to mine... but you should be happy with those figures. I'm not sure what Bridgdav's "before and after" chipping figures were, but he has noted on these forums that the car is now considerably smoother (mine was previously a nightmare round town, whereas I can pootle along at 800rpm through town now!).

The chipping at Austec identified that my car was running particularly lean - and even now I still need 10-15% more fuel... so when funds allow (bonus is due in June!) I'll be heading back to Crawley to try and crack the 200bhp mark...

... but I'd be pleased with those figures..!

Here you go!
- the torque is pretty flat from about 2-4k revs.

i think I may have caught the bug....

I think the scales are slightly different but at first glance power curves look similar, but torque curves are quite different...

... bear in mind the readings from On the Rollers were taken when I had leaky manifolds, and I have since had the injectors cleaned and plenum cleaned...

How far off are you at the moment?

I remember reading an old road test of a 70's 911 RS - 'only' 210BHP but seriously light... the road testers comment was 'anything over 200bhp/tonne is a seriously quick car'

I'll just have to shed some pounds myself!

The last power run that was done (prior to new manifolds and injector cleaning) gave 176.6bhp. Realistically I don't expect to make 200bhp, but it would be nice to get a bit closer to the "magic" number...

I am booked in at Austec for next Tuesday with my S2. She currently pulls pretty well and i reckon is already pushing 170Hp so i will be keen to see what improvements they make to it. I feel like its a bit of a gamble as my figures & smoothness are all OK but i want the best out of her i can, so am giving the piggy back chip a go & cleaning the injectors.

I should have the before & after data available next week & i'll let you know the 'real world' driving benefits as that is the real target rather than peak power, for the chipping process.

Fingers crossed i want 175Hp & 200 lbft, which of course i may already have !!

Cheers
Giles

As a more direct comparison, I've dabbled with the info on Podie and Tim's graphs using excel.

There looks to be masses of power very low down on yours Tim, is it a bit tricky in the wet or are you used to it?

The wheels have only broken away in 2nd in the wet once - on a very 'green' road - scared the shit out of me so I tend not to give it too much stick.

Shame there are no readings sub 2k revs - this is where mine feels heavy, but it does seem to just come alive above 2500rpm.

Hi Tim
Your figures are spot on with those that I got in the same car at Progress Engineering.

With no definate history and relying on a hunch I guess that the engine was rebuilt not long before I bought it & hence not too many miles ago. I banged in some fresh & very expensive synthetic oil as soon as I bought it so things should still be in good condition. I certainly thought that it 'flew' when compared to my previous S2 & was a really 'sweet' engine. Good to see that you are still with it & obviously enjoying it.

All the best

hmm... seems that we have a definition of a sorted V6 S now... ~ 170bhp and ~ 200lb ft torque...

S2 Giles - if you're going for the chip as well, it will be interesting to see what you get out of it... but as Bridgdav found, the greatest bonus is that fact that the delivery is SO smooth...

Now, does anyone want to lend me the money to finish mine off...?

Hello Simon!

good to see that you've still got the bug! thought about a replacement yet?

Yeah - it is a sweet engine indeed - I've done about 5k miles since I bought it off you and hasn't once missed a beat.

Had it serviced a couple of times (most recently at Austec - hence the rolling Road figures) and am slowly building up a recent history...

I'm getting round to a lot of the cosmetic work that needs doing - but it seems that every time I do any remedial work some b*stard knocks/scratches/keys the darn thing again & I'm back to square one!

God I need a garage!!!
