2.0L diesel probs (2007 x3)

Has anyone had the same issue as me? I have a jan 2007 x3 2.0L d, after the engine gets up to full temp the car splutters if I hold neutral throttle? For example if I’m travelling along a 40mph road and hold it at forty in 3rd it hick ups and splutters,. I have taken it to the BMW dealer but as of yet he hasn’t fixed it. Im thinking it could be the EGR its done 40k?
Any ideas of what it is??
